How To Activate Your Body To Shift The Weight

Have you got a weight loss goal but are struggling to get there? Let's biohack your body.

Pregnancy, menopause, hormonal imbalances, poor diet, low activity levels, stress and illness can all contribute to excess weight. When it comes to weight loss how you choose to do it needs to be sustainable. It's all about developing wellbeing strategies to maintain a healthy weight as well as feeling good in your body rather than focussing on the scales.

If you've been doing all the good stuff like eating well and exercising regularly but you're still not shifting those kilo's then there's more going on. I’ll explain more and give you the tips that may help you lose the weight and feel good in your body.

Why You Can’t Lose The Weight

A lot of new research is showing a relationship between oxidative stress and metabolism. People who carry excess weight have higher levels of oxidative stress and lower antioxidant activity. This unfortunately puts them at greater risk for chronic diseases like type 2 diabetes as it is more difficult for them to lose weight.

When your extra weight is from excessive body fat or your body mass index is 30 or above you are medically classified as obese. It might seem strange but obesity and malnutrition often go hand in hand. Processed, high-sugar, high-calorie foods contain almost no nutrients, yet require more vitamins and minerals to metabolize them.

Obesity and diabetes both stem from malnutrition. When you have diabetes your metabolism is sluggish, and your cells don’t communicate as a finely tuned team. Nutrients are an essential part of getting back into balance.

When your body is getting the nutrition it needs and your cells working correctly your metabolism is faster, blood sugar is more balanced, cholesterol improves, inflammation is less, you have fewer cravings, more weight loss, and more energy. Your body is healthy and producing the anti-oxidants it needs to combat oxidative stress.

Anti-Oxidants, Mitochondria and Oxidative Stress

There are many different anti-oxidants. Some of them you’ve probably heard of and many of them you haven’t. Vitamin C, Vitamin E, beta-carotene, selenium, manganese, glutathione, coenzyme Q10 just to name a few. Alpa Lipoic Acid is a powerful antioxidant and has been shown to reduce blood sugar and detoxify the liver. It is an important anti-oxidant in relation to weight control because it boosts mitochondrial function. Why is this important? Mitochondria are your cells factories that take the food you eat, the oxygen you breathe and convert it into energy (metabolism). The energy they create is used to support every function in your body.

If the mitochondria are not working properly your body’s ability to metabolise is less efficient and can shut down. Mitochondria are very sensitive and are easily damaged by oxidative stress.

Rust on a car, the brown that appears on an apple after it’s been cut, rancid oil and wrinkles are all signs of oxidation. As we age our tissues rust, our body fats go rancid and our brains melt. Too many calories, smoking, sunburn, exposure to toxins, sugar, and more can start a chain reaction of cellular and tissue damage that started you on the weight gain journey and are leading you to chronic illness.

Tips To Activate and Shift the Weight

But, it’s not all gloom and doom. you can reduce oxidative stress, increase your body’s ability to produce anti-oxidants, get better energy and weight control. Dr Mark Hyman, a recognised integrative medicine specialist recommends:

  • Avoiding eating processed food, junk food, sugar, and empty calories.

  • Getting rid of environmental and internal toxins to help your body detoxify better

  • Cool off the inflammation in your body, and

  • Balance your hormones.

This begins to provide your mitochondria with the environment in which they can begin to thrive. To boost mitochondria function:

  • Try interval and strength training.

  • Eat eight to 12 servings of fresh vegetables, fruits, beans, nuts, seeds, and whole grains every day. These foods are full of antioxidants and phytonutrients.

  • Take mitochondria-protective and energy-boosting nutrients such as alpha-lipoic acid, coenzyme Q10, N-acetyl-cysteine, and resveratrol.

  • Increase your intake of omega-3 fats to help build your mitochondrial membranes.

  • Take probiotics because modern life, diet, and antibiotics, as well as other drugs, damage our gut ecosystem, which is so important in keeping us healthy and thin.

Activation

There is a new advancement in wellbeing which is all about using nutrition to support healthy gene expression. It’s called activation. Activation is different to supplementation. Whilst supplementation helps provide your body with the nutrition it is lacking, activation gives your cells the energy they need so you feel more active, alert and younger. Activation helps your cells to produce anti-oxidants to combat oxidative damage from free radicals. Activation makes sure your mitochondria are repairing and regenerating.

It may seem overwhelming to work out how to consume enough of the right anti-oxidants and mitochondria boosting nutrients to activate your cells. The good news is you don’t have to. All you need is the combined power of two synergizers that contain a highly scientifically researched combination of natural ingredients that work with your cells to tune up your mitochondria and help them produce high levels of antioxidants to reduce free-radicals.

Taking care of your mitochondria and supporting your body to metabolise may help you to increase your energy and provide your body with the support it needs to resolve the underlying issues that stop you from losing weight. It is the cornerstone of creating lifelong vibrant health and ageing well.
