Have You Tried Cupping Therapy Yet?

It’s an ancient Chinese and Egyptian therapy that supports vibrant looking skin and eases muscle tension.

How It Works

By introducing heat into a glass cup, just before placing it on the skin, oxygen is removed which causes a vacuum that draws the skin upwards.

The suction of the cups helps drain excess fluids and toxins that cause puffy, ageing skin, loosen adhesions and lift connective tissue bringing better qi and blood flow to muscles and skin as well as stimulating the peripheral nervous system.

Benefits of Cupping

Cupping may make it easier for you to:

- relax, because you feel more comfortable in your body

- lose weight as your body is not holding onto unnecessary toxins and waste

- feel fresh and look youthful

- have more effective workouts as your muscle function is improved, and

- make better decisions about your future as you're feeling less overwhelmed and burnt-out.

Many celebrities have endorsed cupping – Michael Phelps, Jennifer Aniston, Victoria Beckham, Justin Bieber and Cameron Diaz just to name a few. Gwyneth Paltrow has openly discussed her interest in alternative therapies, including cupping, with her lifestyle brand, Goop, featuring it as a topic.

“Eastern medicine has a different approach than Western medicine — it’s more holistic," Gwyneth Paltrow

Side Effects of Cupping

Most of my clients find the experience pleasant and relaxing. They often report feeling lighter, less tense and more open and free in their body. That’s a pretty good side effect, don’t you think?

However, I always warn them to be prepared for some localized discoloration and possible soreness. If there is a lot of congestion through the skin and muscle cupping can leave a round mark that looks a bit like a bruise but fades within a few days. Just, maybe, don't book in for a shiatsu with cupping the day before you're wearing that stunning backless dress. Or do, and be confident with your poker dot back and tell everyone who you went to :). You could also apply some arnica cream which helps to reduce bruising and trauma. In cupping the trauma is positive as it kicks in the body’s own healing processes.

Because cupping can have a detox effect it’s important to drink plenty of water afterwards. Otherwise you could feel headachey later that day or the next or get other detox like symptoms.
